It seems to me the rules were written before the introduction of the Courts. Is there any use for them in the solitaire version. I presume they would inflate the scores…

Courts play the same as Pawns. Using all of them might increase scores, but they might also make it harder to put tokens on key points - since you can't put a token on a Pawn or Court.
For the multiplayer game, I prefer to play with either the Pawns or the Courts but not with both.
